We camp/boat at Lake Pueblo State Park often (~8 times per summer). The YUCCA LOOP is, we believe, the best of the campground loops with VERY clean bathrooms and VERY LARGE spaces. ***GREAT*** camping with the ability to have fires in fire pits (unless there's a fire restriction). Fairly close to the marina. ***IF YOU'RE BOATING IN 2009, BE PREPARED FOR LONGER THE NORMAL WAIT TIMES TO BOTH LAUNCH AND RETRIEVE DUE TO ZEBRA MUSSEL INSPECTIONS AND DECONTAMINATION - BOTH MANDATORY.
FANTASTIC campground in a BEAUTIFUL setting, only ~15 miles from The Great Sand Dunes National Park in Alamosa, CO. Staying at this campground has been a Mother's Day tradition (me and the kids while the wife is traveling with her girl friends) for SEVERAL years. We REALLY like this KOA, and with the new pool (which wasn't open yet - should be open now), it's even better!
The owners/staff were VERY friendly and accommodating to our needs! This campground is TYPICALLY a "bypass" campground for travelers on I-40. We stayed on a holiday weekend and there was hardly anyone else staying at this campground - it was almost a "private" setting for us. We had four adults, six kids, two trucks, a fifth-wheel camper and a boat, so we took up a LOT of room, which this campground EASILY accommodated. If you're going to be visiting Ute Lake, we strongly recommend you stay at this KOA - it's a short (~24 miles) drive to the lake (really nice lake!) and you can rest assured of the cleanliness of the bathrooms, campground, etc...
